By using House Talk, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. Acceptance of These Terms
These terms apply to your use of House Talk, including reading, posting, commenting, submitting photos, and using any tools or contact features on the site.
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version here with a new “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the site after changes are posted means you accept the revised terms.
2. User-Generated Content, Not Professional Advice
House Talk is a discussion forum. Most content on the site is created by users, including posts, comments, reviews, suggestions, and repair tips.
That content is for general information and discussion only. It is not professional advice, and it should not replace advice from a licensed contractor, inspector, engineer, electrician, plumber, attorney, insurance professional, or other qualified expert.
Home repair and maintenance can involve safety risks, code issues, permit requirements, and property damage. You are responsible for checking whether advice is accurate, safe, legal, and appropriate for your situation before you act on it.
3. Contractor Recommendations Are Opinions Only
Users may share opinions about contractors, service providers, products, and repair methods. Those opinions belong to the people who post them.
Any recommendation, ranking, review, or mention of a contractor or company on House Talk is an opinion, not a promise or guarantee of quality, licensing status, pricing, availability, results, or fitness for your project.
You are responsible for doing your own research before hiring anyone, including checking licenses, insurance, references, reviews, and written estimates.
4. Affiliate and Pay-Per-Call Disclosure
Some links, listings, or phone numbers on House Talk may be part of affiliate, advertising, lead generation, or pay-per-call relationships. That means we may earn money if you click a link, call a number, submit information, or hire a provider.
This does not change the need for you to use your own judgment. For more details, please review our Affiliate Disclosure.
5. Your Posts and Your Responsibility
You are responsible for any content you post or submit to House Talk. By posting content, you represent that you have the right to share it and that it does not violate the law or anyone else’s rights.
By submitting content, you give House Talk a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce, and distribute that content in connection with operating, improving, and promoting the site. You keep ownership of your content.
We may remove, edit, or limit access to content at our discretion, including content that appears to violate these terms or that we believe may create risk for the site or other users.
6. Prohibited Behavior
You agree not to use House Talk to do any of the following:
- Post spam, fake reviews, scams, or repetitive promotional content
- Post defamatory, harassing, threatening, abusive, hateful, or misleading content
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or affiliations
- Scrape, copy, harvest, or mass-download site content or user data without permission
- Interfere with the site’s operation, security, or access controls
- Post content that violates intellectual property, privacy, or other legal rights
- Use the site for unlawful purposes
We may suspend or ban users, remove content, or take other reasonable steps if these rules are violated.
7. No Warranties
House Talk is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee that the site will always be available, accurate, complete, secure, or error-free.
We do not guarantee the truth, quality, safety, legality, or usefulness of any user post, contractor listing, recommendation, or third-party service.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, House Talk and its owners, operators, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or related to your use of the site.
We are also not responsible for losses or damages related to user content, contractor performance, third-party websites, repair outcomes, property damage, personal injury, lost profits, lost data, or business interruption.
If you rely on information from the site or hire someone based on content you found here, you do so at your own risk.
9. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and, unless applicable law requires otherwise, the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law rules.
